These terms apply when you use billcleanup.com, including its guides, scripts, the charges directory and its tools. “We”, “us” and “our” mean the business that runs this site. By using the site, you accept these terms. This version is effective September 27, 2026.

What Bill Cleanup is, and what it is not

Bill Cleanup is an independent publication of step-by-step guides and worksheets for everyday bill admin: subscriptions, recurring charges, autopay, fees, billing errors and disputes. It is not a bank, a law firm, a credit counselor, a debt relief or bill negotiation service, or a collection agency. We do not contact providers for you, see your accounts, or act for you in a dispute.

Not legal or financial advice

Our guides, scripts and letter wording are general information to help you organise a task and ask the right questions. They are not legal, financial or tax advice, and reading them does not create a lawyer and client relationship. Consumer protection rules, deadlines and provider policies differ by state, provider and account, and they change. For a debt collector, a lawsuit, real financial hardship or a large disputed amount, speak to a consumer attorney, a nonprofit credit counselor or your state attorney general’s consumer office. You decide what to send and to whom, and you are responsible for the accuracy of anything you send.

Provider policies, dates and the charges directory

Fees, cancellation steps and waiver rules vary by provider and change without notice. Each guide shows the date it was last checked and links to its sources; when a guide and your provider disagree, the provider’s current terms apply. The charges directory matches statement text to billers using sources dated on each entry. A match is a likely explanation, not proof of who charged you: confirm a charge with your card issuer or bank before you dispute it, and use the contact details your bank shows, not a number from a search result.

Tools

The charge decoder, the recurring payment map, the cancellation proof file and the Cancellation Friction Index show how they work on the page. Their results depend on what you enter and on sources checked on the dates shown. The worksheets do not save your entries, so print or save anything you need to keep. The tools and all content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows.

Independence

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or paid by any bank, card issuer, biller, subscription service or collection agency. We do not sell products, take affiliate fees for recommendations, publish sponsored content or carry advertising, and no company pays to be included in or left out of a guide. Company and product names on this site belong to their owners and are used only to identify them. Naming a company does not mean that it endorses us or that we are connected with it.

Using the site

You may read, print and share pages, and use the scripts, checklists and worksheets for your own bills and your household’s. You may quote short passages and cite the Cancellation Friction Index if you link to the page you quote. Please do not:

copy or republish whole guides, the charges directory or substantial parts of the site, or present our work as your own;
scrape or request pages at a rate that slows the site for others;
try to get into parts of the site or its systems that are not public, or interfere with their security;
use the site to break the law, to harass a provider or its staff, or to harm other people.

The text, tools, illustrations and design of Bill Cleanup belong to us or to the people who licensed them to us.

Links to other websites

Guides link to providers, banks, regulators, consumer agencies and other sources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or how they handle your information.

Limitation of liability

Bill Cleanup is free to use. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, such as a fee, a missed deadline, a lost dispute or a late payment, arising from your use of the site, its tools or its content. Our total liability for any claim about the site is limited to US$100. Nothing in these terms limits any liability or consumer right that the law does not allow to be limited.

Changes to the site and these terms

We may change, add or remove guides and tools at any time. When we change these terms, we update this page and its effective date. The version on this page when you use the site applies to that use.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. If you have a complaint, write to us first and we will try to settle it within 30 days. You can always use the small claims court where you live.
